What You Need to Know About Hair Removal
You have hair growing in places you dont want it to and you want it gone. It could be due to hirsutism or hypertrichosis or maybe it could just be a few unwanted, unwelcome hairs but if you want to get rid of it today, you have a number of options at your disposal. These are classified into two permanent and temporary. In a permanent procedure, the unwanted hair is removed so that it does not grow back again. This might entail more than one sitting. In the temporary one, the techniques remove the hair but it grows back again according to the bodys hair growth cycle. If you want a permanent hair removing procedure done, you should go to a hair removing specialist or a licensed Esthetician. When it comes to temporary hair removal, you can still get it done by an Esthetician but you will also find many home treatments.
Lets pause and take a look at why we need hair removal anyway. The fact is that the body has hair some more than others. Hair removal for women is very much a part of their cosmetic routine. So you find that they pluck their eyebrows, trim their pubic hair and shave their underarms and legs. Of course, men do that too. They regularly shave their facial hair off and even get their body hair removed sometimes. This could be for cosmetic reasons or in the case of athletes who need to do it to better their performance. You will see this done among bodybuilders and swimmers. Of course, some do it for medical reasons.
Lets look at the different ways to remove hair though a permanent procedure. The most widely used one is electrolysis. Here, each hair follicle has a needle injected into it individually and it is subjected to an electric charge. This can be a bit painful and can also result in infection and scarring. It costs a pretty packet too and can go up to $1000 to $3000 for the pubic area or the legs.
Then comes laser hair removal. This is an FDA approved process but you have to be careful that it is performed only by a trained and licensed professional. In this, a tiny laser beam destroys the hair follicle. The procedure is virtually painless and works well on people with dark hair but light colored skin. Do not go in for this procedure if you are very tanned. The costs could be anything from $1000 for facial hair removal to $2000, maybe $3000 for the pubic area and legs.
There is also a procedure which is similar to the laser treatment called the photo epilation or the pulsed laser treatment. This is also FDA approved and uses a pulsed light beam which destroys the hair follicle. This is ideal when it comes to the bikini or the underarm areas and does not have any restrictions concerning tanning, skin color or hair color. Depending on which part of the body is being treated, the costs vary from $500 to $2000, sometimes more.
When it comes to temporary hair removal methods, there is a wide choice available and most of them can be used at home. This includes threading, shaving, plucking, waxing, hair removal creams and epilators. Isnt it ironic that while some people are so desperate to grow hair back on, so many of us are desperate to get it gone?
